Collins Supports Stricter Oversight of Welfare Benefits

Nick Collins, the Democratic Nominee for State Representative, supports aggressive administrative efforts to curb the waste, fraud, and abuse that exists in the Commonwealth’s Welfare system. On the heels of a Boston Herald review, State officials have acknowledged that there is a need for better oversight of the $392 million in cash assistance benefits granted to 70,000 Bay State households. Collins believes that stricter oversight along with reforms such as putting a limit on the duration of time one can receive assistance, as well as providing evidence that they are actively seeking employment, will help to revamp a broken system. more »

COLLINS BACKED BY FORMER OPPONENTS

Candidate for State Representative of the Fourth Suffolk District, Nick Collins, brought his former challengers together Thursday for a unity meeting at his Perkins Square headquarters in South Boston in preparation for the General Election on Tuesday, November, 2nd.

Candidates Mark McGonagle, Jacob Bombard, and Michael McGee all pledged their full support for Collins in order to advance the issues important to them all: more jobs, quality schools, and safer streets.

“I want to thank my former competitors for running such strong and spirited campaigns. Our community is better-off because we all had the courage to run,” said Collins.

Collins went on to say, “I am pleased to have their support and welcome their help as we work to make this community a better place to live, work and raise a family.”

Collins also extended a thank you to his family, friends and supporters for their constant help and belief in him and asked for their continued support on Election Day, November 2nd.
